Watain – concert review @ Opera House

Watain

Last Saturday I went to see Watain perform at the Opera House.

Before I get into the review, as always I would like to give a shout out to Noel of Inertia Entertainment for putting on another well organized and on time event.

Watain

Watain’s reputation for live shows precedes them. You never know what to expect.

Last time they were performing with severed animal heads drenched in animal blood. Fans could barely stay close to the stage due to the stench that can only be best described as “the smell of death”. On top of that, the fires they were burning left a thick cloud of black smoke in the air, so everyone was coughing it out for days after.

This time around there was none of that but it still didn’t take away from the powerful performance they put on. The back drop was something akin to a drawing from Dante’s Inferno and the quartet were in full corpse paint. Even without the fire and stench they were still quiet menacing.

While the set was somewhat short, it was still a great performance and it is easy to see why they are one of the pre-eminent black metal bands out today.

Below is by far my favorite song by them. Enjoy!
