Origin is one of my favourite restaurants. It’s fun, energetic with the most outstanding food, drinks and service. Every time I go there, it’s like a “dinner and a show”, especially when you’re sitting at the chef’s table. Watching them prepare all that spectacular food is amazing. This place is also great if your date is boring – you can always watch the food being prepared just be sure to make reservations at the chef’s table!
First up was the lobster ceviche ($17). A few big chunks of tender lobster with a tangy sauce and some yucu chips. All I needed was a straw so I could suck up all the sauce, it was that delicious.
Next on our menu were the spicy Spanish fries with chorizo and manchego ($12). By far the heaviest dish of the night and properly timed to be served while our other dishes were being prepared. The blend of the fries, cheese and sausage was remarkable. However, they weren’t spicy at all.
After a little break the crispy calamari was served ($15). These were strips of calamari (not rings or tentacle bits) paired with pineapple strips, and caramelized peanut sauce. Once again, the fusion of the ingredients was incredible.
Last but not least was another well executed dish. The curried shrimp with naan bread ($17). Wow…. just wow….. heaven in your mouth. It had a bit of a kick to it but it wasn’t too spicy.
We still had some room left for a dessert but not much! So what do we do… we order way too much! We got the Origin float ($15) which is a sweet creamy drink with ice cream and was big enough for two people. We also got the sticky bun ($10) with walnut crumble and ovaltine ice cream. By the time we were done with them, we fell into a food coma…
Origin has been in my top three restaurants in Toronto and each time I go there it never disappoints. And how can it? With an amazing service, a beautiful decor and most importantly spectacular food and drinks, Origin is the hot spot in the city!
