It has been months since we wanted to try Lady Marmalade. And it wasn’t for our lack of trying but solely due to the fact that every time we get there, we see a line up of 10 people or more standing outside.
So we picked a day where we knew we would be up early, the weather was dismal so that worked in our favour and hoped for the best. Sure enough we were able to get right in. It was still a full house but we finally got in without the line-up.
The interior at Lady Marmalade is nothing to rave about. It looked like a cottage from the 70’s or 80’s. Full of bric-a-brac and melmac. Personally, I wasn’t crazy about their decor or should I say the lack of. I also felt like the chair I was sitting in would break on me. I think it’s time for an upgrade before someone gets hurt.
I had the baked “crepe croque monsieur” with ham, aged white cheddar & miso-scallion cream, served with poached eggs, spinach & potatoes ($11.50). While the plate was unassuming in size, it more than made up for in the heartiness of the dish. I could barely finish the whole thing.
Anthony had the “real club” served on st. john’s organic white sourdough with bacon, chicken, avocado, tomatoes, red onions & chipotle mayo ($11). On the side was a decent sized salad with a toasted sesame seed vinaigrette dressing.
While we were scarfing down our food the streams of people kept coming and going. The place is not very big so it is easy to see how the line-ups are formed.
The staff was super friendly and came by frequently with fresh coffee and water top-ups.
So the big question is…
Is the food worth the wait?
No! No, it is not!
I would definitely go back and try their other selections but I just can`t see myself waiting that long for food. There are other places with the same if not better food out there.
