Gilead Cafe is one of the many hidden gems in Toronto and treasured by the locals.
It is owned by Toronto chef, Jamie Kennedy. Located in an alley way and not easy to find but once you do – it’s worth it.
Lunch was wrapping up so we placed our orders (kitchen closes at 3:00 pm). We ordered the Pressed Vegetarian Sandwich of Goat Cheese, White Bean Puree, Roasted Red Peppers with Kale and the JK Cheeseburger with Dill Pickle.
One of the main reasons why I like going there for lunch is their food is light and refreshing, which was the case with the Goat Cheese Sandwich – it was fluffy and just melted away in your mouth releasing all the other flavours, which complemented each other so well. The salad – full of succulent flavours and very refreshing and light.
The cheeseburger was a decent size of AAA beef that was seasoned to perfection, cooked to a medium and topped with homemade mayo, ketchup, and one of the home made dill pickles. The juice that was running off the burger was incredible but the freshly made bun held its own to the final bite.
So, if you’re out and about in the neighbourhood, stop by JK Gilead Cafe and get a locally, fresh made sandwich or a salad. Just don’t tell the locals that I sent you there ;)
