Austra is one of those artists that defies categorization. While appealing to a hipster crowd their music traditionally ranges across a broad spectrum of synth, electro and goth.
The Phoenix was the perfect spot for this show and it was refreshing to see that everything was well organized.
We missed the first band, Weaves, but judging by the already decent size crowd they did a good job. The second band was Rituals. While they started off a little slow and shoe-gazie they picked things up by the end and it was a good prelude for Austra.
When Austra took the stage they took the crowd with them. It was energetic, emotional and engaging. If there was one complaint, I think their set was just a little too short. It would have been great to hear a couple more songs.
It was a great night of great music and a well run show. If you have the chance make sure to see them the next time around!
